School Psychologist (21-22)

VACANCY NOTICE:   2022-2023 School Year



Evaluates needs of average, gifted, disabled, and disturbed children within educational system or school, and plans and carries out programs to enable children to attain maximum achievement and adjustment by performing the following duties.

  1. Conducts diagnostic studies to identify child's needs, limitations, and potentials, observing child in classroom and at play, studying school records, consulting with parents and school personnel, and administering and interpreting diagnostic findings
  2. Counsels pupils individually and in groups to assist pupils to achieve personal, social, and emotional adjustment
  3. Advises teachers and other school personnel on methods to enhance school and classroom atmosphere to provide motivating educational environment
  4. Participates in planning of remedial classes and testing programs designed to meet needs of students
  5. Administers individual psychodiagnost techniques for the assessment of intelligence, personality, aptitude, achievement and perception
  6. Participates in legal appeals and hearings regarding students who have been evaluated psychologically or are in special education programs
  7. Conducts short-term individual and/or group counseling whenever possible
  8. Conducts in-service workshops or consultative conferences for school personnel on request or as needed
  9. Interprets test results to parents and teachers
  10. Participates in child study meetings to provide input on response to intervention methods
  11. Assists in the evaluation process of gifted students
  12. Assist with counseling students with emotional, behavior or mental needs per their Section 504 Plan or IEP


Minimal requirements: Masters in Psychology and Virginia Department of Education certification


Salary Range (10 month position): $50,000-63,000; plus stipends for master’s and additional credentials
